Trail Rides

Old Time Outfitting has been conducting business in the Holy Cross Wilderness and the backcountry of the Frying Pan River Valley within the White River National Forest in Colorado for years. We are a full time registered, bonded and insured guide & outfitting company operating under special use permits on the White River National Forest. Our trips are designed for people that want to experience the beauty and solitude of the wilderness and backcountry by horseback. Our experienced riding horses and pack mules will provide many relaxing hours in the saddle in some of the most beautiful high country in Colorado .

One day trail rides

We conduct scheduled full day trail rides into the backcountry of the Frying Pan River Valley, enjoying the scenery and wildlife seen along the way. We also offer "Bring Your Own Horse" rides as well.

Two & Three day wilderness horseback trips

Our scheduled two & three day trips are conducted in the Holy Cross Wilderness located in the heart of the Colorado Rockies between the ski resorts of Aspen and Vail. We maintain a wilderness camp on Last Chance Creek during the months of July & August. This is a comfortable camp with a cook & dining tent and separate guest tents.

Five day Wilderness Adventure

Our five day trips are conducted in the Holy Cross Wilderness and are progressive trips. We camp at our Last Chance Creek camp initially, then pack up and travel by old time pack string across mountain passes, spectacular meadows filled with wildflowers, high alpine lakes filled with Brook or Native Cut Throat Trout and camp at our Cross Creek campsite. Bring your camera and lots of film for this ride. These trips are definitely for the more adventurous type.
Trips are booked for one group at a time. I do not mix groups.
Your trip is for your group alone.

THREE DAY FALL COLOR & ELK WATCHING HORSEBACK TRIP

This trip is scheduled during the time that the fall colors of the Colorado Rockies are generally at their best and the Rocky Mountain Elk are in full rut and bugling. This trip is conducted in the backcountry of the Frying Pan River Valley on the White River National Forest. This is an exceptional time to be in the Colorado Rockies, and the trip is conducted for maximum wildlife observation, photography, and enjoyment of the fall colors.

CUSTOM HORSEBACK TRIPS

We can design exclusive custom trips for groups that have special interests such as: longer trips, trout fishing, wildlife observation, photography, wildflowers, western history, etc. Let us know your interest and we will design an exclusive trip for your group.

All trips include beautiful scenery, trout fishing, photography, wildlife observation, meals, backcountry accommodations, guides, experienced mountain horses and tack, plus an enjoyable time. Guests must provide their sleeping bag and personal items.

WILDERNESS CAMPING & PACK SERVICES

We offer pack services into the wilderness and backcountry for those that want a more economical and do-it-yourself type trip. We can pack your equipment and food by pack mules into the backcountry or wilderness for up to a 10-day stay at one of our permitted campsites. We check on you during your stay at regular intervals then pack your gear out at the end of your camping trip. You can choose to hike to the area or we can provide riding stock for the trip in and out. The country surrounding our campsites offers trout fishing, great day hikes and outstanding scenery.
